The booking process is just a bit complicated, so we’ve created this page as a general overview of what to expect when you go through the process, plus to answer a few potential questions ahead of time. However, if you’re feeling brave,

Clicking on the above link will take you to the InSight Cruises booking system; this process is 7 “pages” long, quite thorough, and mostly very self-explanatory. But in broad terms, here’s the basics:
1. Determine what size/price stateroom you want to book for the cruise. You can see our complete breakdown of stateroom pricing here, and Holland America has an online, interactive deck plan so you can see the layout of the different cabins on the ship, as well as pictures and video tours of the different staterooms (requires Flash).
We are not adding any markup to Holland America’s listed prices, though there is some price variation within each cabin type, and there will be some additional costs above the price quoted on the site—see here for a list of what’s not included in your cruise price. (NOTE: the price you are quoted when going through InSight’s booking process DOES include the $76.80 taxes, subject to change)
2. Determine how many people in your cabin/group will be getting the JoCo Cruise Crazy entertainment pass (to attend all concerts and shipboard events), which costs $320 per person ($375 after October 1) in addition to your cabin price. In most cases, we assume this will be everyone; but it is possible, if desired, for some members of your cabin/group to be on the cruise but not attend the JoCoCruise Crazy events.
3. If you are dividing payment between several members of your party (e.g., two couples going in together on one quad room) and/or anyone who won’t be going on the cruise (e.g., Mom and Dad are paying for the trip as a birthday present), have all payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.) collected and ready.
4. Once you’ve got all the above information gathered, hit the big “CLICK HERE TO BEGIN THE BOOKING PROCESS” link above. The first page you’ll see is the most critical. In addition to selecting you cabin and providing some basic information, this is where you’ll answer the all-important question “How many people are attending Jonathan Coulton Cruise Conference & Entertainment?” The number of people in each cabin who want the JoCo Cruise Crazy entertainment pass MUST be accounted for here.
5. Two other things to watch out for:
- If you are seeking a roommate(s) to split the cost of your stateroom, there is a forum on Jonathan’s site dedicated to finding roommates; alternately, on Page 2 of the booking process, you can select to join InSight’s “Guaranteed Share” program, which will pair you up in a double-occupancy cabin with another JoCo Cruise Crazy attendee of the same sex.
- On Page 5, you are given the option of choosing the 6 pm dinner seating, the 8 pm seating, or “Open”. Please select the 8 pm seating if you are attending the concerts (this is the default selection anyway), as the main event concerts will all take place during the first dinner (concerts will end at approx. 7:30 pm). If you accidentally select a different choice, don’t fret; InSight will contact you and straighten it out anyway.
6. It’s all downhill from there! But if you have questions (and you probably will), please check the Pricing, FAQ, and The Entertainment tabs before resorting to the Contact tab.
Once you are finished with the process, your order is NOT immediately processed; it will first be reviewed by the InSight Cruises travel professionals, and they will contact you if there are any problems or questions. Once they *have* completely reviewed your information, they will process your order and send you a confirmation e-mail. Orders will be processed in the order they are received; eligibility for the Early Booking Bonuses is based on the date your order is placed, not when it is actually processed.
Good luck, everybody! See you on the ship!
